- Red meat. This too presents problems during the first few days after whitening.
- Green, orange, and red fruits and vegetables. Normally you should eat plenty of these items, of course. Just make a point of avoiding them after your teeth have been recently whitened.
Foods and Beverages That Are Safe to Enjoy after Teeth Whitening
Dentists typically recommend following a “white diet” during the post-whitening period. Examples of foods that are fine to eat during this time include:
- Skinless bone and turkey breast.
- White cheeses.
- Plain water or tonic water.
- Small amounts of white wine.
- White rice or pasta.
- White fish.
- Egg whites (not the yolks).
- Peeled white potatoes (no butter).
An easy way to know whether or not a food or beverage is okay is with the “white shirt test.” Just ask yourself if you would be comfortable eating the food while wearing a clean, freshly pressed white shirt or top.
It’s normal for your teeth and gums to be extra sensitive after a whitening treatment.
